Following on from my last update, I had the two BCCs removed from my face about a month ago. I decided to get them cut out rather than use Black Salve (otherwise known as Cansema). I would probably have tried the Cansema had the BCCs been on my body but I felt a bit precious about risking this on my face as this product does have a risk of keloid and non-surgical scarring. So to surgery I went. I must say the whole process was simple but unsettling. I felt very relieved the cancers were cut out but at the same time wondered why they formed in the first place particularly as I have spent my life being careful to minimise sun exposure. Even more unnerving was the thought that more may develop.
Well its now a month later and the scars have healed up. I am applying all the good things including TSB Skin Smoother at night and Minerelle Vitamin C in jojoba oil (this product is in testing at this stage but due online very soon). I really think it has made a significant difference but due to the face the scars are on my face, I was not prepared to leave one without treatment as a placebo. No, I am far to vain for that level of dedication! Now that they have healed I have stopped worrying about more developing – I do all that I can to prevent them – wear natural sunscreen (Devita Solar Body Block when out in the full sun and Devita Solar Protective Moisturiser during the day), wear a hat, eat good food (most of the time) and generally look after myself but if anyone has any other ideas I would love to hear them. PS I am also using my phone as a hands free just in case it had anything to do with the development of the BCCs.
The photos below show the healing process to date.

Hi Ananada,
I am in the Uk, there is a company called Healthy House, that sell things to counteract radation especially computers etc I gave up our cordless phone at home long before mobiles were an every day norm, along with the microwave.just didnt feel comfortable with the ‘non wire’ things.
also there is homeopathy, to indivdually address the person, and strengthen the whole picture?
sounds like you are tackling the possible physical cause and direct skin issues well
hope that helps
best, Jane

Glad you are getting better Ananda! It has healed so quickly and funny you should mention Jojoba- using it as a moisturiser at present- great oil.

Hi Ananda and thankyou for being brave enough to share your photos with all of us. I, like you, have always been extremely careful in the sun, well particularly the last 25 years or so (I’m 50 now). Like you I wear hats and sunscreen religiously and I used to be the one on the beach in the middle of summer wearing a long sleeved shirt. I haven’t been to the beach for years and avoid it like the plague now that my children are grown up and I have no reason to go! Last year I had to have a SCC surgically removed from my forearm. This is the first skin cancer I’ve had. The reason I’m writing this message is to say to you not to beat yourself up about this and just move on as I have. I just feel very fortunate that we have access to appropriate medical care and along with vigilance, that’s all we can do. PS I’m a huge fan of the Devita sun care range and think it’s the best I’ve ever used.

Hello Ananada
The best thing to do is to have regular checkups by a skin specialist such as a Dermatologist or somwhere like Melonomascan. They keep a pictural record of all you moles and can check if any have changed. They can remove any little spots with dry ice while you are there. I have bee going for check ups for many years and slowly there is less and less to be removed. I wear sunblock , a hat and try to stay out of the hot sun religiously but most of the damage has already been done. The damage is done in the first 10 years of our life (in australia) but takes about 30 years to show up. It really boils down to the fact most australians do not have the right skin for this harsh climate, so we need to take extra care.
regards
Jenny

Thanks for sharing your story. Skin cancer runs in my family, and as a child I had my fair share of sunburn which I am regretting now. I see a skin specialist every 12 months to ensure that nothing has popped up or has been changing! We are very fortunate to have access to this type of thing to ensure things can be picked up at an early stage! All the best

Thanks Jane. I have never had a microwave so no issue there but we are going back to old style phones with cords at our house as well particularly as some members of our family live overseas or in other states so when we do chat, it tends to be for a while. I will check out Healthy House – sounds interesting. Yes I agree – rosehip oil is great as well.
