I love paw paw ointment but haven’t used it for years. The brand I used to use I found out contained petrochemicals as a base so I stopped using it all together. Recently however a couple of natural brands have popped up and I have been trialling them to see how they compare to the original. Of those natural brands I have done a comparison below and interestingly while I love the Pure Nutraceuticals product which we stock, the Suvana Paw Paw Ointment is really good too. For this reason, you will see it in-store soon! (Ed note: I is now in-store and on-line)
| Brand | Natural/Organic | Ingredients | Product Experience/Rating | Price |
| Lucas Paw Paw Ointment | High concetration of paw paw ointment. A TGA listed product which means the base ingredients aren’t listed on the label | Contains natural paw paw extract in a petroleum jelly base (a petrochemical) |

| Pure Nutraceuticals Paw Paw Ointment | Natural with food grade preservative. | Suvana Paw Paw Ointment | Natural with some organic ingredients | Castor seed oil*, beeswax*, coconut oil*, cocoa butter*, papaya extract, honey*, jojoba oil*, vanilla bean oil*, candilia wax, carrot seed oil, stevia extract, vitamin e. * organic ingredients |

My video blog about Pure Nutraceuticals Paw Paw Ointment
Hmmm I used the Pure Nutraceuticals paw paw ointment and was disappointed. As a lip balm it was useless- in fact it was really drying. And the consistency wasn’t great. Maybe I had a dud batch (note: I didn’t buy it from Vitale!)

Thanks for the tips Ananda. In years gone by I was also a fan of that product in the red tube/tub but I’m looking for quality alternatives with no petrochemicals – I’ll give your suggestions a try

Hi,
I checked up the Suvana Paw Paw Ointment on the internet and found out that it is actually advertised as a lip balm, where as the others are actually all-purpose ointment. Can you still use the Suvana paw paw “lip balm” on cuts and stuff like the other ones?

Well I just ordered my pure nutraceuticals paw paw so will see how it compares! I’ve always used Lucas Paw Paw, but its a pity about the petrochemicals.

Ah.. the debate continues.. our lovely pawpaw!
I too was SHOCKED when I found out about the petroleum base in the Lucas pawpaw… so haven’t used it in years!
I love Calendula/Jojoba and as a homeopath, utilise the vibrational benefits of Arnica (internally).. for wound healing.
I recently purchased the ‘yellow’ Simmons brand pawpaw for my daughter’s bike stack injuries… hmm.. as a vegan, I have aversion to beeswax in so many products..
but as the ingredients are not listed on the tube, I was none the wiser.. till now.. thankyou!
We did find success with straight pawpaw skin and lots of love and reiki.
Blessings

I think homeopathic Arnica is wonderful. Its great to have in the first aid kit of any home. Beeswax is very common in natural products which for vegans like yourself is problematic but there certainly are ranges that are vegan friendly. However, fresh paw paw, love and reiki are your best options currently as all of the brands I reviewed contain beeswax.

I think the Suvana is the best because it is thicker (due to the higher content of beeswax) which means it has a great capacity to minimise moisture loss from your lips. With dry lips, the thicker the balm, the better. The Paw Paw content will help to heal your lips but reducing moisture loss is the most important consideration. Also keep in mind your water intake. If you aren’t drinking enough water, then your lips are more likely to be dry.

Hi, which brand do you think is best for cracked nipples from breastfeeding?

Hi Guys just came across this review of paw paw products. If you are after skin, lip and haircare and you want super fantastic products with high volumes of fresh not fermented papaya, you should try OnlyPapaya. It’s new and its based on new patented technology for preserving the pawpaws attributes. Check out the website or facebook site under OnlyPapaya Cheers Allison

ive got lucas, simmons and suvana, and i just ordered the nutraceuticals one lol i love lucas the best i dont really mind about petroleum jelly coz it works so i dont care, ive used 2 tubes already, i use it as eye cream and it works realllly well. i mainly use them all as lip balm so simmons isnt good for me, it tastes n smells bitter although does realy smooth my lips. suvana is yummyy honey, but i just cant put down lucas lol! x

*my other comment is above
i recieved the pure nutraceuticals pawpaw, it smells of fake coconut and has gritty waxy bits throughout which dont melt on the skin they crumble abit which isnt nice to use undereyes like Lucas so i just use it on my lips but i really dont like the smell/taste. it moisturises well though, but doesnt stay on 5 minutes!! x

I know. Sometimes it just makes you want to spit! But know you know, you can now tell people about the really pure products that are about…and while I have listed all the paw paw ointments I know of, there are lots of lovely natural & organic all purpose balms now available from Trilogy to Badger Balms to Pure Nutraceuticals. Even Kit Cosmetics has brought out an organic all purpose balm and the rest of their products are filled with rubbish!

Hi Katrina,
Thanks for your comments. I love knowing what people’s experiences are with products – good, bad or indifferent. Can I suggest you try the Suvana version if you want a Paw Paw ointment as it is thicker OR a Badger Lip balm as they have more beeswax and so tend to last longer on your lips. The more waxes in lip balm formulations the longer they last and the more protection they provide. Those based on oils sink into the lips, so provide nourishment but not as much of a protective barrier which may be what happened with the Pure Nutraceuticals. Or maybe it was a dud batch!
